Randall was born on 18 May 2008 after 10 hours of labour.
Vincent, Gynae A/prof John Tee and two midwives helped me delivered little baby Randall. Very proud of Vincent! He was calm and seemed unfazed by all those blood!
My waterbag burst sometime before 3am on 18 May 08. Being inexperienced first time parents, we didn't know what that was as there was also no contractions. However, because there was quite a bit of blood too, we decided to play safe and after calling KKH hotline, checked in at the delivery suite. We were so in a hurry that I forgot to bring my admission forms!
By 3.30am, I was already on the bed in the delivery ward and was 2cm dilated. By then, I was starting to experience mild contractions. The contractions increase in intensity and frequency. My mother has previously instructed me not to take epidural and told me about the believed side effects. However, when the doctor checked my dilation around 6.30am, it was extremely painful. One hour later, I surrendered and asked for epidural. Vincent was not allowed in the ward during the injection. After the adminstration, wow wow! What a great difference! I drifted in and out of sleep and the hours passed by blissfully.
See the little empty baby 'tray' beside me in the picture below? We are all waiting excitedly for little Randall! The black recliner was where Vincent spent the whole 10 hours with me.
At around 1.30pm, the gynae walked in. By then, I was already fully dilated. Despite plenty of pushing and shouts of encouragement, the baby's head slipped back whenever I stopped to rest. I was running out of strength. Eventually, the gynae decided to assist Little Randall by using forceps. There were so much action that Vincent forgot to take any pictures! Especially the one when Randall was placed on my chest. Nevertheless that moment will always be remembered in my heart.
Welcome to this world, precious little Randall! You are a blessing from God.
Once you are out of mummy's womb and placed on the baby tray, your eyes are wide open and you kept looking at mummy. Daddy took a photo of you as you were looking at me!
